Red Bull is offering animators the chance to have their own creation showcased in cinemas nationwide.
Canimation is a nationwide, multi-genre, creativity contest to find undiscovered talent. Not only do animators get the chance to win a screening of their production, there are many more prizes up for grabs.
There are three categories of animation; stop-motion, CGI and drawn animation. In addition, there are two ways of entering the competition; student or ‘open’ route.
The prizes on offer in the open competition, as well as the screening in UK cinemas, include Autodesk, Stop Motion Pro and other media and entertainment equipment. The open competition allows all animators, regardless of experience, to submit their creations. The only rule is that the animation must include the Red Bull logo and can.
Animators who enter the student route get the chance to win an internship with an animation studio. By entering the Drawn competition one student will win a 2 month internship at 2D studio 12foot6. One CGI student will win a 2 month internship at The Mill and one stop-motion student will win a month as an intern at Aardman. To be eligible students have to be in full or part time education and be available for up to a two month period before August 2012.
The submissions will be judged by James Farrington of The Mill, Merlin Crossingham of Aardman Animations, Dave Anderson of 12foot6, Jayne Pilling the director of the British Animation Awards and Tom Tagholm from 4Creative, Channel 4’s Creative department.
The prizes will be awarded at the Red Bull Canimation Awards Ceremony at Empire, Leicester Square in London’s West End on 15th December.
The closing date for entries is November 15th. This is when the public voting begins.
All the information, including how to enter can be found on the Canimation website.
